Stella, a 19-year-old tabby cat and her owner are staying at the American Red Cross Shelter in Pasadena after being evacuated due to the Palisades Fire. Yazen Alnehmi, a volunteer from Rancho Cuca Monga, is a newly trained Red Cross pet liaison on his first assignment.
He signed up to become a volunteer using the Red Cross app on his phone.
This may be the first time he has been called into action, but it won’t be his last. When asked how long he was going to volunteer he stated, “For the rest on my whole life!”
After large disasters, the Red Cross relies on pre-trained volunteers, like Yazen, to help people (and pets!) in need. If you, or anyone you know is interested in joining our team anywhere in the United States, please visit redcross.org/volunteer to find a list of opportunities near you.
