Yiwei Chen is the Regional Mass Care Lead for the Los Angeles Region. An asset to the LA Team, her efforts have an impact far beyond our region. Her leadership is felt across the country and throughout the larger mass care family of volunteers that serve with the American Red Cross.
In the last few months, she led the Pacific Division Shelter Capacity Building series, and oversaw wide-ranging and high-value discussions for shelter supervisors on off-doctrine topics such as "how to be a great shelter manager." This innovative series, hosted over multiple months, covered various hot topics and reached more than 1600 Red Crossers across the country.
Yiwei also regularly leads the deployment of resources across the division and throughout LA, providing mutual aid to other regions whenever called on, and implementing quality programming locally at all times. Never one to shy away from directly supporting, Yiwei deployed this year to serve as a shelter manager for headquarters during the Hurricane Ian response. In both her tactical and strategic activities, Yiwei is a superstar and a respected and appreciated leader. She truly embodies the best qualities in our Pacific Division volunteers and we are excited to announce that she is the December Spirit of the Pacific Award Winner!!
The Spirit of the Pacific is a Division-level Award, awarded to exemplary volunteers or employees nominated by their peers and selected by Divisional Executive Leadership. It is a high honor and one of the highest-level division awards available.
