American Red Cross Pet Liaison, Paige McKee of Spokane, WA and Fritz Porter had the unique opportunity to offer oranges to Coco, a 10-year-old, pigmy goat and Eaton Fire survivor this week.
The group was spotted outside the Pasadena Civic Center where the Red Cross has established a shelter for fire evacuees. Coco quickly became a bit of a celebrity, charming any shelter resident who happened by. She smiled for photos and put much-needed smiles on countless faces including Fritz Porter's, an active-duty Marine, stationed in San Diego.
Fritz traveled to Pasadena to help his in-laws, who lost their home and business in the Palisades Fire. He offered to goat-sit (nanny-sit?) Coco for the day while his mother-in-law accesses resources at the shelter.
The Red Cross is coordinating closely with our partners at the Pasadena center and several others throughout the city, to provide food, shelter, emotional support and other critical care to the community.
