David Mequade and Jolene Bufford feed their chihuahua, Coco, treats from the back of their car.

Sitting in the back of the same truck they drove to evacuate the Eaton Wildfire, David Mequade and Jolene Bufford are happy for the simple act of feeding treats to their chihuahua, Coco.
Almost a week after leaving home, they are parked at the Red Cross Shelter at the Pasadena Civic Center, thankful for access to food, showers, and supplies to meet their immediate needs. Among those needs, food for Coco, of course!
Jolene stated, “We are so glad to be here. The Red Cross has provided everything we need after being evacuated. We went through a scary time during the fire and now feel safe.”
One week after the fires began, the threat isn’t over for Los Angeles. Dangerous fire weather conditions are forecast to continue this week. The Red Cross encourages everyone in impacted areas to follow instructions from local officials and be prepared to evacuate.
We’re coordinating closely with our partners to provide food, shelter, emotional support and other critical services so that no one faces this disaster alone.
