Robert Hunt donates blood every 56 days, honoring the nurses who cared for him during WWII. Photo by Stephanie Grande/American Red Cross.
During our 19th Annual Hometown Heroes award luncheon, we honored Robert Hunt for his 30 plus years of making regular blood donations. His lifesaving gifts were inspired by the Red Cross support he received over 70 years ago.
While serving in Germany during World War II, Robert Hunt required an emergency appendectomy. To this day, Robert fondly remembers the three Red Cross nurses who took great care of him following his surgery. Robert pays their kindness forward by donating blood every 56 days – caring for others as those Red Cross nurses cared for him.
Since starting his reoccurring blood donations in 1993, Robert has donated 128 units of blood, equaling 16 gallons. In addition to his gift of life, Robert brings a wonderful smile and great sense of humor to his every visit.
