Mia and her parents, residents of London, Kentucky, stayed at a Red Cross shelter at First Baptist Church of London after their home was destroyed during last Friday's severe weather. Mia was grateful that she and her family were able to stay somewhere with their dog and cat, and the family expressed how kind the Red Cross volunteers have been. Mia's pets received care at the shelter from the Rockcastle County Pet Shelter and Laurel County Animal Shelter, as well as first aid from a Lexington veterinarian who traveled to the shelter to help.
Red Cross disaster workers have been on the ground since the severe storms hit, helping our fellow Kentuckians in need. Red Cross shelters are a safe place for everyone and act as a hub for disaster help. Anyone who has been affected is welcome to stop by to get information, a hot meal, charge their phone and access other essential support. We don’t ask for identification, and you don’t have to stay overnight.
