Prepare, Respond and Recover: Disaster Teams Make a Difference Across Louisiana
From the Red River to the Gulf, the Louisiana Region’s disaster teams answer the call to help neighbors in need: preparing communities, responding to emergencies and supporting families on the road to recovery.
Here’s a glimpse into how compassionate volunteers and disaster program leaders are building safer, stronger communities across the state.
North Chapter: Northwest, Northeast and Central Louisiana

Northwest Louisiana: Nearly 70 incredible volunteers came together in Shreveport to make a lifesaving difference in their community: installing almost 200 free smoke alarms and making 250 people safer from home fires. Community partners from Barksdale Airforce Base joined in for a day of impact!

Capital Area-West Chapter: Southwest Louisiana, Acadiana and Capital Area

Southwest Louisiana: Community Preparedness Fairs held in Calcasieu and Beauregard Parish were a success thanks to community partners like Acadian Ambulance and local fire departments. Held throughout the year, these fairs share lifesaving safety information and connect Louisianans with the Red Cross mission.

Acadiana: Nearly 70 volunteers joined the Sound the Alarm event in Lafayette to install 122 smoke alarms in 57 homes, helping protect about 150 residents. Local partners, like the Lafayette Fire & Sheriff's Department, Iberia Boys & Girls Club and the Junior League of Lafayette, made the event a huge success!

New Orleans: When all residents of a 116-unit apartment complex in New Orleans East were displaced due to a fire, Red Crossers in southeast Louisiana jumped into action to provide shelter, food and financial recovery assistance to impacted families.
