SALT LAKE CITY (March 4, 2026) — New data from the American Red Cross shows how volunteers of all generations are making a difference in Utah. From young people joining Red Cross clubs to those who have served for decades, volunteers of all ages help people affected by disasters, support military families, assist with blood drives and teach critical safety skills.
Nationally, Gen Z is the fastest-growing and largest group of Red Cross volunteers, driven by the growth of student-led Red Cross Clubs and youth leadership programs. Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers and members of the Silent Generation continue to play vital roles in supporting Red Cross efforts nationwide.
The Red Cross of Utah is supported by more than 2,500 volunteers. Based on demographic information provided by those who shared their age:
“Generation after generation, Utahns continue to show that compassion and service are among this community’s greatest strengths,” said Jeremiah Lafranca, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Utah Greater Salt Lake Chapter. “Volunteers of all ages bring care, comfort, and hope to people during their most challenging times. Their dedication drives our humanitarian mission every day.”
Get Involved During Red Cross Month
March is Red Cross Month, a time to recognize the volunteers, donors and partners who make the Red Cross mission possible and to invite others to get involved. Utahns can give back to their communities by volunteering, making a financial gift, donating blood or taking a class in lifesaving skills.
Red Cross volunteers respond to local disasters and deploy to larger emergencies nationwide, support blood drives, assist military families and help communities prepare for emergencies. Blood donors provide a critical resource for patients who depend on transfusions.
Those who want to get involved can learn more about volunteering at redcross.org/volunteer, schedule a blood donation at redcross.org/GiveBlood or make a financial donation at redcross.org/donate. Red Cross training classes are also available to be better prepared to help in an emergency at redcross.org/take-a-class.
