When the Eaton Fire left the Altadena community reeling, with entire neighborhoods destroyed and families in urgent need of assistance, the African Methodist Episcopal Church partnered with the American Red Cross to provide relief and recovery support.
For generations, the AME Church in Pasadena has stood as a pillar of strength, offering unwavering support and care to African American families in the community. More than just a place of worship, it serves as a beacon of hope, comfort, and resilience.
Throughout the year, the church’s community center hums with activity, thanks to the dedication of its members and the collaboration of local civic organizations. When disaster struck, that spirit of service became even more vital.
“There are proactive ways we can learn from the Red Cross so that when disasters happen, we are prepared,” said Pastor Campbell.
In the aftermath of the fire, the church transformed its grounds into a bustling wellness fair, bringing critical resources directly to those in need. Tables and booths lined the perimeter, each offering vital information and assistance. The Red Cross played a key role, setting up a station to help residents apply for financial assistance and distributing disaster emergency supplies, including personal protective equipment, water, and food.
“Thank you for bringing the Red Cross to this event as we serve the needs of our people, particularly those affected by the wildfires,” Pastor Campbell said. “I want to share this knowledge with my congregation and community so we can all become more familiar with your services. We welcome you into our church and our neighborhood to teach us how to be better prepared for emergencies.”
Through faith and service, AME Church continues to uplift and protect its community, ensuring that in times of crisis, no one stands alone.
