MCKINLEYVILLE, CA (May 24, 2017) - The American Red Cross of the California Northwest is proud to present the Volunteer of Year award to Allen Puderbaugh of Crescent City. This award was presented at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Event on May 20, 2017 which included a cruise around Humboldt Bay with lunch following in Samoa, CA.
The Volunteer of the Year award is presented to an individual who best exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism. The candidate must have contributed significantly in the current year to operations, programs, and services as well as to the mission of the Red Cross.
When in regards to passion and enthusiasm, it's hard to find another individual that compares to Allen Puderbaugh. His ceaseless dedication and reliability has proven invaluable to the success of many projects within our District. Allen has become an indispensable member of our team by providing his unwavering support to our logistics team and in helping us to advance the mission of the American Red Cross here in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. In addition to being such a strong Red Cross advocate, Allen has also shown us that we all have the potential to succeed if we test our own limits and travel outside our comfort zones in order to make a positive impact in our communities.
In addition to this award, two outstanding youth volunteers were given the Certificate of Appreciation: Tyge Bellinger of Arcata and Dhruvi Vora of Arcata. These two volunteers make up Humboldt's youth team and have helped make many of our projects a success. More specifically, our home fire campaign, pillowcase project, and general youth outreach efforts.
In his short time with us, Tyge has already made a substantial impact with the Red Cross as we have seen Tyge grow and quickly develop into a solid source of support. Tyge has helped bridge gaps by connecting us to local schools and youth groups in order to deliver much needed emergency and disaster education as well as providing direct service in the successful execution of home fire campaign events.
Dhruvi Vora is another fantastic example of the benefit of having the passion and enthusiasm of a youth team here in Humboldt County. As a visiting student from India, she has shared her infectious ardency for emergency preparedness education by leading numerous preparedness education presentations within at risk communities both here in Humboldt and in Del Norte Counties. She hopes to take the knowledge and experience she has gained here at the Red Cross back home in order to serve as an internationally certified preparedness educator and help spread valuable knowledge across continents.
