SANTA ROSA, Jan. 19, 2023 — As the American Red Cross response to the devastating California floods continues, the need for trained volunteers grows.
More than 630 trained Red Cross disaster workers are helping people in California. Since New Year’s Eve, the Red Cross and partners have provided more than 8,000 shelter stays in 80 shelters, more than 41,600 meals and snacks, and distributed more than 9,700 relief items such as comfort kits and other relief supplies. The Red Cross will also be there in the days and weeks to come, supporting people as they recover from the storms.
While trained Red Crossers continue to manage the response efforts, we are looking for additional volunteers to help with response and recovery activities, including feeding, supply distribution, clean-up kit building and more
Please apply online to become a Red Cross volunteer if you are interested in helping with this response or with responses in the future. No prior experience required, and training will be provided.
“We are always looking for new people who are interested in supporting their communities in times of disaster and beyond,” said Hanna Malak, CEO for the Northern California Coastal Region of the Red Cross. “The Red Cross continues to work around the clock to provide shelter, food, comfort and other emergency support to victims of these disasters. This vital work is made possible by people like you who contribute their time and compassion.”
Training is free, but the hope you provide as a Red Cross volunteer is priceless. Learn more and apply to be a part of our local response: tinyurl.com/ARC2023FloodsApplication
