Our Disaster Cycle Services Team and the and Heart of the Valley Chapter Leadership celebrating Nancy and her dedication to the Red Cross Mission.
Nancy Reeves is retiring as a Red Cross volunteer after 17 years, and everyone in the Heart of the Valley Chapter and Northern California Coastal region will deeply miss her.
Her journey with the Red Cross started in 2007 when she joined the Disaster Action Team in Stanislaus County. She was a dedicated volunteer. Her colleagues often say that Nancy is “always there when the Red Cross calls.”
She fulfilled several roles over the years, displaying solid professionalism in each opportunity. She was a Disaster Action Team (DAT) Supervisor, Duty Officer, Disaster Responder, and Disaster Services Chair. She was also a remarkable trainer and mentor for new DAT volunteers, always happy to share her extensive knowledge and experience with them.
In recognition of her humanitarian spirit, earlier this year she was honored with the Chapter’s top award, the Clara Barton Award for Meritorious Leadership. This award acknowledges her years of service in various leadership positions.
The Heart of the Valley Chapter celebrated Nancy’s retirement and contributions to the Red Cross at a out Holiday Tinsel & Tacos event on December 5th, 2023. This was a great event to join as a team and acknowledge Nancy for all her contributions and dedication to the Red Cross mission. Nancy was gifted a Red Cross Challenge Coin that, “honors the extraordinary work that takes place across all Red Cross departments and lines of service.”
Nancy also did outstanding work to improve cooperation with community partners. She supervised and approved facilities that could be used as Red Cross shelters during a disaster and was also in charge of sheltering training for our county partners. Now, as she steps down from her Red Cross duties, she will dedicate her free time to discovering new and exciting destinations around the world, as well as enjoy precious moments with her new great-grandson and his family.
Nancy, your dedication as a Red Cross Volunteer comes with gratitude and appreciation of everyone in the Chapter and Region. We are proud to call you friend and Red Crosser, and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.
