Pro Football Hall of Famer and blood donor Jerry Rice has joined together with American Red Cross and Suburban Propane to encourage the community to commit to a simple act with a powerful impact — giving blood for patients in need.
“I was always afraid of needles, so nervous,” Rice said, noting how the care of Red Cross blood collections staff helped put him at ease. “After I got past that I was OK, and I felt really proud. And, you know, you don’t know where your blood is going to go, but you just know that it’s probably going to help save lives.”
Rice encourages others to join him in donating blood.
“Here’s your chance to make a difference,” Rice added. “You never know who you might be helping. It could be a friend or a family member who needs blood — and that’s why it’s so important.”
