From how to be safe and prepared in an emergency to how to take care of your pet, the American Red Cross has a suite of apps for mobile devices that includes something for everyone.
The Red Cross has developed a number of free apps for mobile devices which give people vital information to help keep them safe during everyday emergencies and large-scale disasters. Other apps can offer valuable first aid information or allow you to schedule a blood donation appointment from your phone. They include the following:
Keeping you safe
EMERGENCY APP The all-inclusive Emergency App combines more than 35 emergency alerts to help keep the user safe. This latest app from the Red Cross provides information about what to do in case of floods, thunderstorms, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires and more. The emergency alerts are available for the user’s location and to monitor where friends and family live. A single map provides open Red Cross shelter locations and weather information.
Emergency users can easily toggle between English and Spanish. Information is included on emergency first aid for situations such as heat-related emergencies and water safety for lakes and beaches. The app also covers what to do in emergencies that affect a large area, such as mudslides and snow storms.
“Family Safe” is another unique feature that allows people to instantly see if loved ones are okay, even if that person hasn’t downloaded the Emergency App. Using “Family Safe,” the user can send someone a message and their response of either “I’m safe” or “I’m not safe” will come to the user. If they are not safe, the user can call them or see their location on a map. The app also has an “I’m Safe” button which allows users to let loved ones know they are out of harm’s way.
FIRST AID APP The First Aid App is an easy way to get lifesaving first aid instruction anytime, anywhere. Features include step-by step instructions, videos and animations for first aid scenarios, a 9-1-1 call button and hospital locator, as well as safety and preparedness tips for a range of conditions including severe weather and disasters.
Something for your furry friends
FOR YOUR PETS The Red Cross Pet First Aid App puts veterinary advice for everyday emergencies in the palm of your hand. The app features simple step-by-step instructions to guide you through everyday emergencies with your pet. Users will learn first aid steps for more than 25 common pet situations. With videos, interactive quizzes and simple step-by-step advice it’s never been easier to know Pet First Aid.
For the kids
SWIM APP Help your child become a confident swimmer with the Red Cross Swim App. It puts the Learn-to-Swim program in the palm of your hand, helping you to learn about water safety and how to teach your child to swim. The app has features specifically designed for children, including a variety of games, videos and quizzes. Other features include reference information for parents on swimming skills and objectives, help locating the nearest swim facility where classes are available and ways to chart the child’s performance related to individual swimming strokes.
MONSTER GUARD Sponsored by Disney, Monster Guard is the first mobile app created by the Red Cross that's designed specifically for kids. Children (aged 7-11) role play as Maya, Chad, Olivia and other monsters as they learn how to prepare for real-life emergencies at home and in other environments in this fun and engaging game.
Please give blood
BLOOD APP The Red Cross has introduced a first-of-its kind Blood Donor App that puts the power to save lives in the palm of your hand. Through the app, users can schedule appointments, track total donations, earn rewards and invite others to join them on a lifesaving team. The Blood Donor App is a great new way to help meet the constant need for blood.
