WASHINGTON D.C. – April 23, 2018 – The American Red Cross is proud to announce the relaunch of RedCrossBlood.org, making it even more convenient for blood and platelet donors to roll up a sleeve and help save lives. Enhancements include a mobile-friendly user experience, improved content search, and enhanced personalization.
“We realize that our generous blood and platelet donors lead very busy lives, and we are focused on utilizing the latest technology to support and empower individuals to make a lifesaving blood donation,” said Kamenna Lee, vice president of Marketing, Red Cross Blood Services. “Whether using a smartphone, tablet or computer, RedCrossBlood.org is now easier than ever for donors to schedule appointments, complete RapidPass, and view donation history.”
Website traffic has grown approximately 45 percent in two years, and a majority of visitors now use mobile devices. Enhancing the user experience for these new devices, with new features and capabilities is critical to ensuring the blood donor experience online is as easy and complete as possible. Make an Appointment on RedCrossBlood.org to Give Blood
The Red Cross needs to collect more than 13,000 donations every day to meet the needs of patients at about 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country.
Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Platelets can be given every seven days – up to 24 times a year. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
