The American Red Cross recognizes the Koizumi Fund for supporting Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces with a gift of $1.5 million. The donation will help enable the organization to provide emergency communications, critical community services, hospital programs and mental wellness support to service members, veterans, their families and caregivers.
Each year, the Red Cross assists more than 240,000 military and veteran families in the U.S and abroad through its Service to Armed Forces programs. Thanks to generous donors that support the Service to the Armed Forces, the Red Cross continues to care for U.S. military and veteran communities from the time a service member takes the oath to navigating their life as a veterans, providing home comforts and critical services on bases and in military hospitals around the world.
The Koizumi Fund was established by former Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in July 2016 to provide medical aid to U.S. military personnel who suffered injuries related to their work delivering critical relief to Japanese residents after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant meltdown. With this gift, the Koizumi Fund expands their support to serving the U.S. military community at every stage of life.

For nearly 140 years, the Red Cross has provided comfort and support to members of the U.S military. Last year alone, investment in the Service to the Armed Forces:
“On the occasion of my 80th birthday, I would like to broaden my support by making a donation of $1.5 million to the American Red Cross to provide financial aid to all U.S. military members, including veterans and their families,” said Koizumi Fund founder Junichiro Koizumi.

About the Koizumi Fund
The Koizumi Fund was established in July 2016 for the purpose of providing medical aid to US military and civilian personnel injured during their participation in Operation Tomodachi, the purpose of which was to provide critically needed relief to those Japanese people affected by the Mar 11, 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami as well as the subsequent nuclear meltdowns at the Fukushima Dai’ichi Nuclear Power Plant. In 2022 the purpose of the Koizumi Fund was expanded to include provision of financial aid to all U.S. military members, including veterans and their families.
