An instructor teaches lifesaving CPR skills.
The American Red Cross, the trusted leader in lifesaving training, today announced meaningful updates to its flagship First Aid/CPR/AED program. This enhanced program delivers a best-in-class training experience that elevates both the teaching and learning experiences.
“The enhanced First Aid/CPR/AED program is a significant advancement for learners and instructors. It features updated course content grounded in the latest science, along with powerful new tools and resources that make teaching more streamlined, engaging and consistent,” said Dom Tolli, senior vice president of Product Management and Platform Development for the Red Cross. “Our updated approach, with a focus on more efficient teaching tools and smarter class management, helps instructors focus on what matters most – effective, high-quality training that builds confident, capable bystanders.”
The program updates are built around three focus areas:
Instructor Excellence: To help instructors deliver outstanding classes with ease, the updated program introduces a suite of new instructional tools and resources. Improved lesson plans and instructional design minimize prep time and lecture fatigue, allowing instructors to focus on interaction and skill-building.
Flexible, Modern Learning Methods: The redesigned course meets learners where they are – whether they are first-time students or seasoned professionals. Adaptive learning tools and methods allow for more focused, personalized training and student evaluation.
Science-driven Enhancements: The program continues to be grounded in the latest science-based evidence, protocols and educational best practices. It contains a key update to infant CPR, transitioning from the two-finger technique to either the encircling thumbs or one-hand method. All science changes are catalogued in the new Red Cross First Aid Guidelines Database, which offers clear, easy-to-understand explanations of Red Cross scientific reviews, first aid statements and best practices.
Providers can further extend lifesaving care knowledge and skills – and customize training to meet their needs – by supplementing the core First Aid/CPR/AED program with instructor-led Skill Boosts. These complementary learning modules cover critical topics such as life-threatening bleeding and tourniquet application as well as opioid overdose response and naloxone administration.
The program release is accompanied by the free Red Cross First Aid app, which puts expert advice for everyday emergencies in the user’s hand. This essential app includes quick, intuitive access to first aid information (including skill steps and videos)..
Confidence in responding to emergencies is vital across all industries and professions, especially with more than 15 workplace deaths occurring daily.
