The American Red Cross is both a funder and an implementer. Following the earthquake in January 2010, we funded more than 50 partner organizations to help Haitians recover and rebuild. Working with other organizations enabled us to extend our reach and leverage the capacity of partners with specialties on the ground. By partnering, we avoided duplication of efforts and ensured gaps were covered. Small community-based organizations, large international non-profits, and United Nations partners each brought targeted skills or offered access to the most vulnerable people that one single organization could not provide alone.
"H.O.P.E. is grateful for American Red Cross' support of its cholera and community health programs in the commune of Borgne, on the northern coast of Haiti. Since 2011, American Red Cross' funding has made it possible for H.O.P.E./Alyans Sante Borgne to mount an effective education, prevention, and treatment cholera program and to extend much needed services to the most remote villages of this isolated region of 80,000 inhabitants.
