The International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Youth Action Campaign (YAC) Design Competition provides Youth Action Campaign participants to showcase their creativity by submitting original artwork inspired by the annual IHL theme.
Selected designs may be featured in Youth Action Campaign materials, digital resources, promotional items, and other program recognition opportunities. The competition provides young volunteers with a chance to share their creativity and contribute to the global IHL Youth Action Campaign community.
Yoonseo Linda Lee from Arizona is the winner of the 2025 IHL YAC pin design for her creative approach to the IHL theme of Space Law and Armed Conflict. Linda's design reminds participants of the importance of space regulation and the impact of satellites on civilian populations here on earth.
Finley Endres, our 2024 IHL Youth Action Campaign pin design competition winner, found inspiration in the story of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl from Japan who contracted leukemia as a result of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. While in the hospital, one of her roommates told her about an ancient Japanese belief that if anyone folds 1,000 folding cranes, you would be granted a wish.
Reflecting on this, Finley shared, “Despite being sick, Sadako still had hope. I based my pin on her story so we may find hope in her story for a better future free of nuclear war.”
Jeeline Martinez from Texas is the 2023 pin design winner for the IHL Environment and Armed Conflict theme considered how extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and other related events displace people, disrupt food supplies, and indirectly contribute to conflict. This theme raised awareness about the danger environmental change poses to people and explored the legal protections for the environment during armed conflict.
