Every year the  International Humanitarian Law team hosts a competition for the design of our annual Youth Action Campaign pin!

The Annual International Humanitarian Law Youth Action Campaign Pin Contest is open to students who are current American Red Cross volunteers and participants in the IHL Youth Action Campaign. Participants submit art that reflect this year's IHL theme and the top designs will be voted on by current IHL YAC Participants globally.

The winning design is then made into the official annual IHL YAC pin, which is produced and distributed to Red Cross IHL YAC volunteers around the world!

Finley Endres, our 2024 IHL Youth Action Campaign pin design competition winner, found inspiration in the story of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl from Japan who contracted leukemia as a result of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. While in the hospital, one of her roommates told her about an ancient Japanese belief that if anyone folds 1,000 folding cranes, you would be granted a wish.

Reflecting on this, Finley shared, “Despite being sick, Sadako still had hope. I based my pin on her story so we may find hope in her story for a better future free of nuclear war.”
