FORT MYERS, Fla (March 10, 2022) — The South Florida Region of the American Red Cross has received a generous donation of $15,038 from Sun Communities which was inspired by recent Red Cross disaster response efforts in the Florida Gulf Coast to Heartland Chapter following the devastating tornadoes in Fort Myers. This charitable contribution will help the Red Cross continue to serve their lifesaving mission and respond to disasters such as this.
Earlier this year, the Fort Myers area was impacted by tornadoes which shook multiple mobile home communities and impacted hundreds of locals. After seeing the devastation, three mobile communities band together to raise funds to donate to the Red Cross.
“When emergencies strike, the community rallies together to help when it matters most. Following the devastating tornado that hit Fort Myers the community was quick to respond and help those that lost everything. It was inspiring to see our volunteers mobilize to care for those bringing comfort and hope,” said Jill Palmer, Executive Director of the Florida Gulf Coast to Heartland Chapter. “We are grateful for Sun Communities and their generous gift to support our disaster response. March is Red Cross Month, and we invite everyone to turn their compassion into action by donating, volunteering or taking a lifesaving skills course.”
The check was presented at the Florida Gulf Coast to Heartland Chapter by Sun Communities representatives: Tammy Siebert, Duffy Friss, Vicki Matthews and Maria Fisher. Generous donations from the community and corporate partners enable the Red Cross to prepare communities for disasters big and small, respond whenever and wherever disasters occur, and help families during the recovery process.
“We were deeply moved to want to help our neighboring communities. Many residents were asking how we could come together and help,” said Maria Fisher, Sun Communities Representative. “Our resorts are located so close to the affected communities, it really hit home that this devastation could have happened to any of us. Neighbors need to help each other out and we felt donating to the Red Cross was the best way to make an impact!”
