(March 15, 2026) HONOLULU — As the powerful Kona low storm continues to cause disruption across the state, the American Red Cross is issuing an urgent call for new volunteers to step up today to help support thousands of Hawai‘i residents affected by this severe weather. Red Cross shelters remain open on Maui, Lāna‘i, Moloka‘i and the Big Island. Shelters on Oahu have closed as people return to their homes.

Red Cross volunteers are currently providing safe shelter, food, water, disaster health services and emotional support as communities face continued flooding, road closures and prolonged power outages.

About the Roles:
· Disaster Emergency Supplies (DES): help manage, organize and distribute emergency supplies to people affected by the storm.
· Disaster Assessment (DA): Support teams by evaluating storm damage to homes and gathering on the ground information.
· Shelter Support: Assist with registration, dormitory support and welcoming those displaced by the storm.
