Haitian Red Cross staff and volunteers partner with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to distribute relief supplies at the port of Anse d'Hainault, not far from where Matthew made landfall. The items distributed include family kits (food parcels, jerry cans, buckets, mosquito nets and blankets) and shelter items (tools and hardware). American Red Cross staff have been deployed to the Grand’Anse Department to help the IFRC coordinate logistics and disaster assessment.

The American Red Cross continues to work with local and global partners in Haiti, including the Haitian Red Cross, to mobilize and deliver critical relief.

Hurricane Matthew, the largest disaster in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake and the largest storm to hit the country in 50 years, has left widespread flooding, damage to infrastructure (water systems, electricity and roads) and major crop and livestock loss. According to the United Nations 1.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.

These images highlight some of the urgent relief efforts carried out by the American Red Cross alongside the global Red Cross Network since before landfall.
