By setting up mobile satellites, the Red Cross is helping Puerto Ricans to reconnect with loved ones, inform family members of their safety, charge their phones, and access information on the internet. The technology also helps aid workers to coordinate relief efforts on an island where infrastructure and telecommunications networks are badly damaged. Red Cross staff and volunteers who set up the mobile satellites saw tears of happiness and joy as people reconnected with mothers, fathers, grandparents, and siblings. The three short words "I am alive" may be all that is needed to ease the minds of distraught loved ones half a globe away.
