According torecent estimates, veterans represent around 7% of the adult U.S. population – and these former service members can encounter a number of challenges when transitioning back into civilian life. Donating to veterans is a vital part of ensuring that these men and women receive adequate care and support in the years following their service.
Dating all the way back to World War I, the American Red Cross has a strong history of providing services for veterans. Our commitment to members of the U.S. Armed Forces remains just as strong today - and we depend on veterans donations from people like you.

Below is the general process for donating to veterans:
Research charities that work to address on veterans' issues and find one that you would like to support
Confirm the charity’s status as a reputable and trustworthy organization
Determine whether you would like to donate money to the cause or donate your time/skills as a volunteer (or both)
Make a donation and make a difference!
If donating money or property, keep track of your charitable contributions for tax purposes
While veterans are faced with a unique set of challenges upon returning to civilian life, a wide variety of veterans charities aim to address some or all of these issues.
The American Red Cross works to connect veterans and their families with both local and national resources. We help to identify the needs of veterans and their families and then determine the best programs to meet those needs – connecting them to critical community services, such as food, housing, mental health care and rehabilitation, and other resources that meet the unique needs of American veterans.
The American Red Cross also helps veterans work through the process of obtaining veterans’ benefits – from preparing applications through to appealing decisions if necessary. Additionally, members of the American Red Cross volunteer in VA and military hospitals across the U.S. and throughout the world.

American Veterans Donations
Before donating to a charity, it’s a good idea to confirm who your donations will be helping as well as the way in which they will be helping. While some veterans charities may assist international military members, American veterans donations through the American Red Cross specifically support U.S. service members from the day of enlistment through their years as veterans.
How Your Donation Helps
Donating to veterans is a great way to give by providing support to those who have served and their families. Monetary donations can enable medical and non-medical Red Cross volunteers to provide care, comfort and therapy items at veteran hospitals as well as at military treatment facilities around the world. We provide military, veterans, their families and caregivers with free resources and tools for facing challenges and stress, reducing their isolation, and increasing their sense of hope, knowledge and skills. The Red Cross also assists American veterans and their families in claiming veterans’ benefits.
