Meet our expeditionary mobile workforce, an elite group of Red Crossers who deploy to austere locations around the world to support the humanitarian needs of service members.
Teams support our military in remote portions of the globe, such as Kuwait, Djibouti, Iraq, Poland and Romania.
The American Red Cross serves as the communications medium between deployed service members and their families. Mobile staff members help facilitate the secure transmission of messages between family members and deployed service members.
“It was about creating opportunities for them,” said Aspyn. “To decompress, to relax, that may have not been available before.”
Read how Aspyn Adams deployed to Iraq and helped soldiers relieve the stress from patrols through “Create and Chill” sessions at a Red Cross Respite Center.
On remote bases otherwise devoid of recreational opportunities, the Red Cross expeditionary workforce brings wellness and respite programming to those who serve. Red Cross staff members deliver care packages and play an active role in creating, organizing and supporting events designed to improve service members’ wellness.
Red Cross staff members team up with service members to provide varying language, dance, art, yoga, music and cooking classes so that they can learn new skills, make new friends and have a moment’s reprieve while deployed to a foreign country.
“I wouldn't have made it through school if I didn't have the space.”
Daniel Rungo, while deployed to Poland, completed his master’s degree. Read how the Red Cross respite center provided him a quiet space to take tests.
For service members looking for a meaningful way to spend time connecting with others and giving back, the Red Cross provides volunteer opportunities both at home and while deployed.
