The new virtual workspace and the fear of COVID-19 made it very difficult to physically work with communities and tend to their needs.
In partnership with the PrepareSoCal Westlake Pico Union coalition members and the office of Councilmember Gil Cedillo, the Red Cross delivered COVID-19 preparedness education to the residents of these communities.
The members of Latino Engagement Team were deployed to Northern California, Texas and Oregon to bridge build between the Latino community and the services offered by the Red Cross.
During the civil uprisings sparked by the murder of George Floyd, the Los Angeles Region set up a respite center at the All Black Lives Matter rally, offering water to both law enforcement and rally attendees. And finally, uprising led to a re-examination of the region’s priorities and bring a diversity and inclusion focus to our work and training. The region went into action with dialogues, training and webinars, as well as the Culture Project, the Anti-Racism Task Force and diversity volunteer and blood recruitment.
