As we said goodbye to senior members, who left the region or retired from the Red Cross, we also welcomed many new people to the Los Angeles Region, including the first woman CEO -- Joanne Nowlin. Three years with the organization in Florida, Joanne brought with her compassion and an earnest desire to support the Region as it faced one its most trying years.
In addition, Hector LaFarga was named the new executive director of the Northern Valleys Chapter, a site of many wildfire relief efforts in the past four years, and Bruce Daly was named the chair of the Regional Board of Directors.
We said goodbye to three retiring Red Crossers, whose years of service cannot be matched and whose experience are a humbling reminder of how long the organization has been helping to alleviate human suffering. Scott Underwood, Ruben Mercado and Joselito Garcia Ruiz – we hope to see as a volunteer soon. First enjoy some much-needed R&R.
