LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 15, 2026) — The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region has closed its emergency shelter that was opened to support residents affected by the Palos Fire in La Habra Heights.
At the request of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the Red Cross opened a shelter Monday evening at Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights to provide a safe place for residents impacted by the fire and related utility outages.
The shelter closed at noon today in coordination with the City of La Habra Heights after conditions improved in the community. Gas service has been restored to all non-damaged homes, and electricity has been restored to most affected residences.
According to the La Habra Heights Fire Department, two homes were destroyed by the fire. The Red Cross remains engaged with local partners and is continuing outreach to affected families to provide immediate assistance and recovery support.
