We often think of mothers as superheroes who can do it all – manage a home, family, work and more. And we know mothers don’t aways feel like a superhero, especially when things happen out of their control, like illness and injury involving one of their children. Every day there are mothers across the country caring for their little ones receiving medical treatments including blood transfusions – holding a premature infant, hugging a toddler with sickle cell disease, reading to a child with cancer. These mothers show so much strength while going through challenging times.
This Mother’s Day the Red Cross is sharing a message of thanks to all moms and a special shoutout to those mothers caring for ill or injured loved ones. Here is the story of one such mother, Carley, who has been by her daughter London’s side throughout a more than one year-long battle with cancer.
Blood donors help many kinds of patients, including children in need of transfusions. By donating blood, you can give a mother hope and keep a family together.
