If you have been impacted by Super Typhoon Sinlaku, please contact your local Red Cross for support by calling 671-472-6217 (Guam) or 670-234-3459 (Saipan).
It’s been a long, stressful month for people on Saipan and Tinian who are trying to get back on their feet after Super Typhoon Sinlaku devastated the islands. The American Red Cross is there, working with partners to make sure people get the help they need.
Saipan and Tinian bore the brunt of the storm, Sinlaku destroying home after home on the islands. Officials report power is still out on both Saipan and Tinian and while most customers on Tinian have their water service restored, only half of Saipan has water.
RED CROSS RESPONSE Hundreds of American Red Cross disaster workers from across the country have joined volunteers from the region, working around the clock to help people as they deal with the aftermath of the typhoon.
The Red Cross is supporting 7 emergency shelters on Saipan with hundreds of people seeking refuge after the storm. To date, there have been over 14,800 overnight stays in Red Cross shelters.
Red Cross teams have conducted targeted distribution of emergency supplies and water in hard-hit neighborhoods. Over 13,000 clean-up kits and other emergency items have been distributed, and with partners, Red Crossers have served over 183,000 snacks and meals.
The Red Cross is helping with damage assessment which will provide information as to what support people need now and in the coming weeks. In shelters, disaster health volunteers are caring for minor injuries and replacing things like eyeglasses and medications. Disaster mental health workers are providing emotional support to those experiencing unimaginable loss.
