When an earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010, the scale of devastation was difficult to fathom. But as Americans began to grasp the pain that Haitians felt that day, one thing became very clear: we had to help. Donations to the American Red Cross poured in from across the United States, totaling $486 million toward recovery efforts in Haiti. The contributions helped in the immediate aftermath—providing things like emergency shelter, food, water, medical treatment and supplies—and are still at work today.
Four years later, those donations continue to make a difference in the everyday lives of people affected by the earthquake. Your generosity is helping Haiti to not only recover from the disaster, but to rebuild as safer and better-prepared for future emergencies. Donations to the American Red Cross have touched the lives of nearly 4.4 million people in Haiti. Who are they? Scroll the slideshow to meet a few.
