Broomfield, CO, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 — The American Red Cross recognized The Ball Foundation today for supporting Red Cross disaster relief at home and around the world.
The Ball Foundation, headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, has donated more than $500,000 to support the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) through the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund. Through this support, Ball is providing reliable funding in advance of disasters to enable immediate response when disaster strikes so that communities are safer and more sustainable over the long-term.
Ball has contributed more than $2 million in cash and in-kind donations to Red Cross efforts over the past three years. Since 2017, Ball also has partnered with several customers to donate millions of cans of clean drinking water for disaster relief victims in North America.
The IFRC Disaster Relief Emergency Fund enables the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to provide immediate financial support to national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, enabling them to carry out their unique role as responders after a disaster.
Disaster Responder members pledge donations year-round, in advance of major disasters, to ensure the Red Cross can respond immediately with comfort and care whenever and wherever disasters occur, help families during the recovery process, and ensure communities become better prepared for the next disaster.
“Disasters can happen at any moment,” said Koby Langley, senior vice president, International Services at the American Red Cross. “The Ball Foundation’s forward-thinking gift will help ensure we have the strong infrastructure and critical resources to prepare for and respond quickly and compassionately to emergencies of all sizes when they happen, across the country and around the world.”
“Ball Corporation is proud to partner with the American Red Cross and IFRC to provide international relief to communities when they are most vulnerable,” says Chris Chavez, executive director of The Ball Foundation. “By working together with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Ball and its employees are making a difference in the lives of those affected by disasters.”
Ball’s support is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #11, focusing on sustainable cities and communities – making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe and sustainable.
Each year, the Red Cross responds to more than 62,000 disasters across the country, including home fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes and wildfires.
