
With the fear that almost half a million school children could go hungry, Red Cross Los Aneles partnered with the second largest school district in the country, the Los Angeles Unified School District. In mid-March, the partnership led to more than 40 million meals (breakfast and lunch) distributed in 15 weeks to those affected by school closures.
The meal distribution addressed the food insecurities Angelenos were facing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was humbling to see what 1,400 Red Crossers, some who had just signed up to volunteer, can accomplish when they work together with their hearts aligned.
