Whether you or a family member have recently entered the military or you are a long-time veteran, navigating the many transitions connected with military service and life as a veteran can be hard. Reconnection workshops aim to ease the stress that comes with these changes.

This free, confidential Red Cross program offers effective ways to work through challenges, improve wellbeing and build skills through small-group discussion and hands-on activities. Workshops help improve connections at home, at work and within communities. We invite active duty service members, members of the Reserves and National Guard, veterans and military families to participate.

Adult Workshop Topics

Effective Communication

This module helps participants build strong communication skills to better manage the challenges and transitions often faced by service members, veterans and military families.

Stress Solutions

This module is designed to help service members, veterans and military families learn the benefits of healthy stress, recognize when stress is unhealthy and know what steps to take to effectively manage stress over the long term.

Trauma Talk

This module is designed to help service members, veterans and military families recognize common reactions to traumatic experiences. It helps participants distinguish between normal, helpful responses to trauma and those responses that require professional help, and it offers strategies to ease traumatic reactions.

Emotional Grit

This module helps service members, veterans and military families understand the many emotions that come with challenges and transitions. It teaches participants to recognize when behaviors, thoughts and feelings are manageable and when they could be signs or symptoms of depression. Participants learn ways to address symptoms and when to make a referral or seek additional help.

Connecting with Kids

This module helps the service members, veterans and families build on their personal strengths to help children through challenges and transitions common within the military. Information about child developmental and family dynamics are provided along with hands-on activities adults can practice at home with children to encourage stress management and healthy, safe decision making.

Defusing Anger

This module addresses the anger that can occur when service members, veterans and military families undergo stress. It normalizes anger as a natural human response and offers options for how to respond when faced with emotionally intense situations and events.

Caregiver Module

This module is designed for non-professional caregivers of wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. It helps participants work through some of the biggest challenges that caregivers often face, including identity changes, isolation concerns and building a personal wellness plan.

Child/Teen Workshops

(ages 8-12 and 12-18)

Roger That! Communication Counts*

This module helps children and teens improve communication within the family, with peers and in other settings. It addresses the many challenges faced by a military child through activities that teach how to be understood and how to understand others.

Confident Coping*

This module enhances children and teens’ coping skills by teaching healthy techniques for handling stressful experiences, such as frequent moves and family adjustment during deployment.

both virtually and in-person.
