Water safety has been a primary focus of the Red Cross since 1914, and our courses reach every skill level and interest. Our courses are designed to make learning easier and to help you benefit from the latest research on instructional techniques. With the Red Cross, you will find an assortment of aquatic instruction classes that can help individuals and families to safely enjoy a wide range of water recreation activities.

Our courses of instruction include:

Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses offer something for everyone. Through a progressive, six-level instructional approach, participants learn a variety of strokes, including the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. They are also introduced to a wide range of personal safety skills and diving techniques. Courses are fun and interactive with hands-on training.

Are you 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or a challenging career? American Red Cross Lifeguarding is the best place to start! Lifeguarding can put you on the path to exciting opportunities. You could be part of a team that saves a life!

Lifeguard Instructor
This program trains instructor candidates to teach others in basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, Waterpark Lifeguarding and Shallow Water Attendant (all including first aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water Rescue courses.

Water Safety Instructor
This course provides instruction through video and hands-on skill building. The course includes all the water safety and drowning prevention tools and information needed to plan and conduct courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program.
