Taking a BLS Class

Basic Life Support Training
The American Red Cross offers BLS training for individuals and teams, and courses that are held entirely in person, or through our blended Simulation Learning experience, which combines online classwork with in-person skills sessions. This way, you can learn on your schedule - and in the way that suits you best. Regardless of which type of course you choose, you'll receive instruction from world-class professionals, as well as science-based information that includes the latest protocols, so you can deliver care to those in need and help improve patient outcomes.

Providing BLS Care
For BLS providers, when emergencies arise, it's your job to be able to provide care to whomever is in need. That's why Red Cross BLS classes cover best practices for delivering care to infants, children and adults. And because skills can be lost if they're not used regularly, we also offer refresher materials and a printout of some basic BLS steps that can help you stay sharp between calls.

Good Quality but Unnecessarily Long
This reviewer rated product 5 out of 5 stars.VaEMT4 years agoThe course was good quality and the instructor was thorough, but the slides and videos during the in-person portion took longer than I believe that they should've. I may have just been impatient because I've taken the course before and I was only recertifying, so take my review with a grain of salt. Even with that accounted for, I still think that the information in the slides could have been condensed down into a more efficient presentation. Otherwise, it was a good course with a decent ... amount of hands-on work with adult/infant dummies. The instructor was very polite and I believe that she is competent in the subject matter.

Very informative. Best class I have taken so far.
This reviewer rated product 5 out of 5 stars.muziani54 years agoI took the BLS class in Princeton NJ. It was the best class I have taken so far and I have been in a couple different classes that were not with the American Red Cross. I definitely will continue to recertify with the American Red Cross. I learned so much more and my instructor was great. He really took the time to go over everything and made sure everyone was doing things properly and explained something if someone needed it.

Training fine - enrollment needs streamlining
This reviewer rated product 4 out of 5 stars.Justadwater6 days agoThe training itself was fine. The process of getting to it needs streamlining. The Red Cross already has certification information in its system. It seems there should not be a separate step for enrollees to have to upload credentials for approval.

Great videos and useful information
This reviewer rated product 5 out of 5 stars.Chrisintheburg2 months agoI found the information very helpful. I especially liked the videos that developed a “critical eye”. It was very helpful to learn good communication techniques when correcting skills.

Very Engaging + Informative
This reviewer rated product 5 out of 5 stars.cnastudent1 month agoI have been working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for nearly 3.5 years now in long-term care, but looking to move into the hospital setting often requires a BLS certification. I was able to book this class, then take both the learning and demonstrative portions in-person in the same day. The instructor made things interesting and didn't make the class feel super daunting and strung out. The group demonstrations were engaging as it helped gain a better sense of what things are like in a ... real-life emergency. I would absolutely recommend.

Shawna was great
This reviewer rated product 5 out of 5 stars.TomLa4 years agoIn today's COVID environment, holding in person training is difficult. Shawna managed to put it together wonderfully and in a way it was easy to follow and understand. She's a great instructor.

Thorough, Enthusiastic Instruction
This reviewer rated product 5 out of 5 stars.Eddie V3 weeks agoI was very pleased with my Basic Life Support training. The facilitator Amy was detail oriented and thoughtful in her instruction. She emphasized the importance of following each step when helping someone, and she made our groups restart the process during the simulated intervention portions of the seminar if we happened to miss something. Her ability to interweave between the Red Cross presentation and the hands-on exercises was excellent.

Good show
This reviewer rated product 4 out of 5 stars.roselani2 months agoThe online certification was very long and comprehensive. I wish there was a playback feature where i could 1.5x or even 2x the speed. The in-person certification was fine, but I think there needs to be a higher teacher to student ratio. My class had 1 teacher to 12 students, but I think it would greatly help if there was a teaching assistant or something of the like. This is a personal problem, but I would also like to be pointed to classes that I could take for extra practice although I’m ... certified already.
