Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Imformative My mom decided to sign me up for this class because I expressed an interest in babysitting. She wanted to make I was prepared to take care of kids and had the proper training. She found the American Red Cross babysitting class and entrusted them in making sure I was properly prepared. I will have to say The Red Cross babysitting class really informed on everything I need to know about babysitting such as, how to pick up an infant, feed an infant, change a diaper, and what to do when a child gets injured or is choking. I would definitely recommend the American Red Cross to parents or teens looking for babysitting training. They answered an questions I had and made every lesson clear.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Class didn't provide content advertised Class was advertised as covering common behavior issues, business advice, first aid and cpr. The first two issues were covered, heimlech maneuver and how to apply bandages was reviewed and the kids were given a CD with CPR training on it. CPR was not covered in class and no practice is available with a video. Very unhappy I spent $200 sending two of my children (the oldest two of 8 kids) for very little applicable content. They didn't need to spend all day learning how to hold/feed babies and toddlers. I understand some kids do and am not against that content being included but very frustrated that the content they needed was not covered.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So-so experience for my daughter My 12 year daughter took the class and was underwhelmed at best. Said the instructor didn't teach much, just watched videos and then did some hands-on. I fully expected her to be excited to go market her new credentials, but that wasn't the case at all. When I went to pick her up the instructor came out and just said " here to pick up, they'll be done in a few" and walked away. Another parent and I looked at each other and both thought "grumpy old guy not wanting to be there on a Saturday." As we were walking out, I heard another girl say "it sucked" to her Mom. Overall, not great and wished we would have selected another course from the competition.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I was promised I signed up for the babysitting class over a on the ago because it said in the class description that I would be certified in CPR as well as taught about how to properly care for children. When I got to the class is was informed that they no longer certified you in CPR and that I would have to pay more money for a second class just for a CPR certification. They told me that that change was made relatively recently and I guess they just hadn't updated their website. When I got home from the class I immediately checked the website only to see that the class description had been updated. I am extremely disappointed that I payed $89 for this. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every Potential Sitter Should Do This Training! Impressed by how thorough the class was and the use of mixed media - book, booklet, DVD and in class videos filmed with teens, kids and parents in real life settings so helps to bring the points home better and for students to hopefully remember in the context of their own babysitting experiences. Teacher seemed very professional, capable and understood the importance of what and how she was training. Was great for my emerging teen daughter to learn new things about babies & toddlers & their care as she has no exposure to that otherwise. Wish they had this course when I was a teen!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good class but missing some vital info My daughter took this class. She thought it was good info and enjoyed it. That said, she was disappointed there is no CPR aspect (as I believe there was in the past?) because she really wants to learn that as well. I don't see any non-certification CPR classes available through American Red Cross that seem to fit the bill for this kind of thing. This seems like vital info that is missing if someone is interested in babysitting, particularly since there doesn't appear to be another class that fills in that gap without full certification which seems excessive for a 12 year old.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Babysitting Class Review This class was good and covered lots of good information. The only things I didn't like about it were that it seemed to exaggerate things (such as need to wrap up a cut in gauze even if it isn't severe) and it was kind of boring at some times because it was so long. I feel like it didn't need to 7 hours. Class was listed to end at 4:30 but then was told at drop-off that we should be there at 4:00. I had not planned for that and had to work. One instructor was pretty rude when I expressed that I couldn't be there at 4:00 since I had arranged work around the listed class end time of 4:30. Please change the listing or the actual end time to match.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No CPR 95$ common sense class This class was hugely over priced. It was all common sense and listening to 2 people tell personal stories. Some of the advice was poor for instance "if the child does not want to brush his teeth, allow him to have a cupcake if he brushes his teeth before bed". What kind of advice is that? The videos are out dated, pre cell phone generation. I was told to "make a website, put photos and bio with all my dates" so put my photo, personal information and location on the internet? That's a horrible idea. Apparently this instructor has never taken a cyber safety course. A lot of bad advice.
