The American Red Cross Virtual First Aid for Severe Trauma® Instructor Crossover Course with Skill Session is for instructors currently certified with the Red Cross or equivalent training organizations who wish to become certified as an American Red Cross First Aid for Severe Trauma® (FAST™) instructor. Instructor candidates taking this crossover must complete an online instructor course and a virtual skill session in which they will demonstrate how to use tourniquets. Prior to registering for or attending the course candidates must review the “Virtual FAST™ Instructor Crossover with Skill Session Instructions” document on the FAST™ Candidates pages (https://www.redcrosslearningcenter.org/s/first-aid-for-severe-trauma-candidates) of the Red Cross Learning Center. The instructions will provide detailed information on how to complete the online work materials you will be required to have for the skill session and how you will join the virtual skill session. Instructor candidates will be required to have their own course supplies which will include latex-free disposable gloves gauze pads windlass rod tourniquet OR ratcheting tourniquet a bleeding control limb trainer and a computer with a webcam and microphone that can join a video conference. Instructions on how to create your own bleeding control limb trainer can be found on the FAST™ Candidates pages (https://www.redcrosslearningcenter.org/s/first-aid-for-severe-trauma-candidates) of the Red Cross Learning Center. Online work must be completed prior to the skill session. After registration you will be contacted by a Red Cross representative via email with the video conference call link. It is recommended that candidates do not register for this course if the start date is less than one week out.
