• CPR for Healthcare Providers

The CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers (CPRO) program trains professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. This course has been recently updated to current International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) guidelines, including the American Red Cross Aquatic Guidelines and Best Practices. The Aquatic Guidelines and Best Practices are based on the results of scientific evidence evaluations and guideline reviews overseen by the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council.

The term professional rescuer refers to those with a duty to act. These professions include EMS professionals, nurses, physicians, CNAs, and other healthcare and public safety personnel, as well as those in the athletic training and recreation fields, including lifeguards. Through these courses we're able to keep you up to date on the latest techniques, so you can maintain certifications and deliver the best possible care in an emergency. Course content includes knowledge and skills for providing emergency care for adults, children, and infants in:

    • Rapid Assessment
    • Giving Ventilations using a resuscitation mask
    • Using a Bag-Valve-Mask Resuscitator (two rescuers)
    • CPR and AED (single-rescuer, two rescuer, and multiple-rescuer team response with 4 rescuers)
    • Obstructed Airway Care (responsive and unresponsive)

BLS vs. CPR for healthcare clinicians: What is the difference?

When lives are on the line, it is critical that healthcare and professional responder staff have the skills and confidence to act in the moments that matter. Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) is meant for healthcare clinicians and first responders. This comprehensive, evidence-based curriculum goes beyond a cardiac focus, making our programs unique and more robust. Red Cross BLS courses meet competency verification, education, credentialing and privileging requirements.

CPR classes are the foundation of workplace safety training, giving immediate responders a mastery of lifesaving techniques and the confidence to act when moments matter, be the cardiac emergency be at home, at school or in their community.

Check with your employer or state guidelines to verify if you’re required to hold a BLS or CPR certificate.
