The American Red Cross has been a leader in aquatic education since 1914, and in the New Orleans area, the Red Cross has been teaching water safety for more than 60 years. Whether it’s learning to swim or learning to protect those who do, Red Cross aquatic classes provide essential skills for water safety. Red Cross aquatic courses, taught by local community swimming pools, are offered year-round.
Louisiana is one of the most disaster-prone states in the country. Volunteers are always needed to respond to disasters in our local communities. To sign up to become a Red Cross disaster services volunteer, you must be trained. Red Cross volunteers and staff respond to disasters ranging from single family home fires to larger disasters, such as tornadoes and floods, affecting many families. Register today for disaster volunteer training courses, which are free.
The American Red Cross offers a wide variety of training courses in first aid, CPR, AED, lifeguarding, swimming, babysitting, caregiving and other areas for individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is the most trusted provider of health and safety training that meets OSHA guidelines and many other professional and regulatory standards. Self-study classes also are available online, as well as blended-learning classes that combine online lessons with in-person skills sessions conducted by Red Cross-certified instructors.
Our day-to-day work goal is to help people prevent, prepare for and cope with emergencies through educational opportunities. Learn how you can be ready for an emergency or disaster by participating in one of our preparedness workshops. They are custom designed for ages 5 to senior adults.
In addition, the Red Cross offers a library of safety, preparedness and response resources. We offer businesses and community organizations comprehensive, on-site disaster and emergency response programs to help your employees, volunteers, communities and families understand what to do in an emergency or disaster.
